AND THE CHURCH IN AURORA HOSTING COLLECTION DAY JUNE 23!

Ravenna, Ohio-June 18, 2012- Habitat for Humanity of Portage County and the Church in Aurora are teaming up to host, “Habitat Donation Station,” in which Habitat for Humanity of Portage County will accept donations from the community of reusable appliances, furniture and building materials for resale in the ReStore in Kent.

This event will take place on Saturday June 23^th from 10am – 2pm at the Church in Aurora, 146 South Chillicothe Road.  Habitat staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist unloading vehicles, provide donation receipts and to discuss the Habitat program and volunteer opportunities.

Acceptable donations include:  furniture, appliances, cabinets, countertops, doors, flooring, hardware, lighting, lumber, plumbing, roofing, tools, windows, exercise equipment and working TV’s & stereos.

Donations to the ReStore are fully tax deductible and pick-up services for large items can be scheduled before or after the event by calling 330-677-8881.  Donations will be taken to the Habitat ReStore in Kent, with profits from the sales of items directly benefitting Habitat for Humanity construction projects in Portage County.

Brian Reitz, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Portage County, commented, “We were thrilled with the response from the Aurora community at last year’s event and are excited for the opportunity to partner with the residents of Aurora and the Church in Aurora to find a second life for many useful pieces of the home and reduce the amount of waste going into the landfills.”

Habitat for Humanity of Portage County is encouraging the community to celebrate Father’s Day Weekend this year by pairing the holiday with the nonprofit. One way is through purchasing a gift certificate at the ReStore which offers an array of new and nearly new building supplies, furniture and appliances that not only make a unique, but meaningful gift to dad.

By purchasing a gift certificate a unique and meaningful purchase is guaranteed. With an assortment of new and nearly new building supplies, furniture, and appliances there is something for everyone.

Not only will the purchase benefit the recipient, but also the community. The profits from the ReStore are recycled back into the construction and restoration to aid the mission of Habitat to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Another way to partner up with the local Habitat is to consider volunteering this season. With many ways to get involved volunteers can make a difference in the community by lending a hand in home construction, office support, family services, and fundraising, as well as other opportunities to create affordable housing throughout Portage County.

A memorial gift is a great way to celebrate the life of a father who has passed away. By contributing to Habitat an investment is made that helps to secure a brighter future for another family.

In partnership with Leave a Legacy of Summit, Portage & Medina, Habitat is offering free wills for individuals on May 18th from 9am -4pm.

Local attorneys will be on site throughout the day to assist in the creation of a simple will at no cost.

This event will take place on Sunday May 6 from 10am – 2pm at the Edinburg United Church, 4081 Rock Spring Road, Ravenna OH.  Habitat staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist unloading vehicles, provide donation receipts and to discuss the Habitat program and volunteer opportunities.

Acceptable items for donations include:  furniture, appliances, cabinets, countertops, doors, flooring, hardware, lighting, lumber, plumbing, roofing, windows, and other building tools.
